Progressivism, the Anti-Christ Mentality

When reading Christ’s command in Acts 1:8 “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes…and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.” Is witnessing speaking Christ’s truth to enable the word of God to convict the lost through the Holy Spirit? The answer is yes! Then doesn’t Hebrews 4:12 tell us the power of the word of God? “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Did God promise in Isaiah 55:11 “My word that goes forth…; it shall not return to Me void?” Then in Luke 9:23, Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Is there any doubt that Christ commands us to take up our cross and witness the power of God’s word into the darkness of humankind to the ends of the earth? There should be no doubt!

Sadly, Christians today have drawn a circle around the word ‘politics’ and treat it like it is some kind of all-encompassing pariah, which stands outside of Christ’s influence. This is a lie, nothing is outside of Christ’s influence. Remarkably, Christ’s influence is tremendously needed today in the political and public square of America. However, many Christians and their pastors have convinced themselves they need to imitate the three wise monkeys. They cover their eyes to see no political evil, their mouths to speak no political evil, and cover their ears to hear no political evil while in church thinking they are following God’s word. Truly, they are only proving silence condones darkness, when biblically Ephesians 5:11 commands Christians they are to: “…have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Other Christians may believe it is not fashionable to believe they cannot set themselves above such things as politics. After all, Christians are cultured and refined through the spirit and not gullible like the over the top political fanatics they see on television. It would not be respectable to be counted as against political darkness. This might accuse Christianity of taking the side of good against evil. After all, they reason, wasn’t Christ loving and meek when He walked on earth?

This of course is lunacy when we biblically compare our gracious, bold, life giving, evil identifying Savior, who brought the Spirit of Truth that “penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow.” Therefore, “Whoever says he has accepted Christ as God and Savior has a moral obligation to walk and conduct himself just as Christ walked and conducted Himself” (John 2:6). Christ was loving and forgiving, and he created conflict by exposing the Jewish theocracy the government, of hypocrisy. He exposed their evil ways and used force to chase the money changers out of the temple.

Christ not only spoke into the evil of politics of the day, the Jews used politics to convince Pontius Pilate to kill Him.   This recalls Christ’s scathing rebuke of the Pharisees who “look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean” (Matthew 23:27). This is the church of Sardis described as being “dead” (Rev. 3:1). It appeared to be alive – had “a reputation of being alive” – looked spiritually vibrant on the outside, but was spiritually lifeless. This is a CINO church, (Christian in Name Only).

Today, if we expose political evil by exposing those who support the murder of the unborn we would broadly identify them as secular liberals or progressives. The truth is they use a political principality Christians are to stand against, called the Democrat Party, which steals, kills, and destroys. In John 10:10 Christ calls this evil Satan, and Paul told us to put on the full armor of God to withstand evil by speaking boldly as we ought to speak as Christ’s ambassadors (Ephesians 6:11-20). This means those who Christians are afraid to expose, “…are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, deceit, and malice. They are God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful and they invent new ways of doing evil” (Romans 1:29). This is the fruit, the product, the Democrat Party produces.

Many times Christians ask me how progressive people can think the way they do. My answer, which is my best estimate, is in the following short story that shows how the word of God can affect progressives if Christians will witness Christ’s truth to them.

When progressive people live within the Anti-Christ mentality they unknowingly move through life like a person paddling their canoe through the land of 10,000 lakes and 1000 islands. Crossing land bridge after land bridge, they search for the island where they can live in their self-created secret Mecca of superior thinking. Then to keep others from disputing what they created as truth, they unconsciously destroy the bridges between the islands. Thus, making it emotionally and physically impossible to go back without accepting what they believe doesn’t exist, the absolute unchangeable truth.

Upon arrival at their self-fabricated island they cheer because they have one-upped the world, by making up their own truth, hence convincing themselves and others of their self-importance. They then develop no real gratitude, nor are they really accepting, or truly patient of others because they have made the trip by themselves.  Therefore, in their world of self-importance they of course won’t really forgive a perceived or real wrong, and have no hope in anyone or anything other than themselves. There is no limit to their immorality because everything within their own imagination is possible and necessary.

They now have an ‘Us and Them’ mentality where they believe ‘Us’ are superior in every aspect to ‘Them’, who are the uninformed, and unworthy people who lack intelligence. Us they say, while patting themselves on the back, have everything ‘Them’ don’t have, and so it goes for all of ‘Us’. This, without their knowing, is living within the sinful nature of self-deceit.

Finally, there is a day when the truth hits ‘Us’. They are beyond surprised to realize they are isolated on an island. Remarkably, they are not sure of the location of this island or the path they took to get there. Their perceived friends have proven to be temporary at best, and at worse leaches. All of their ideals and made-up ethics are found on recyclable paper in the human trash-heap of despair.

They discover they are all alone and everything that has true meaning seems to be beyond their grasp. They discover their life’s foundation was built on shifting sand and their walls are made of perishable materials, the changeable values of mankind. Its then they realize their island is a self-invention and they have found themselves in the middle of the ocean on an island named nowhere. The tide of reality is rising with the shocking discovery that they are the ‘Them’, the uninformed and unworthy who can now see the coming tsunami that is going to drown ‘Them’ in despair. They know death is coming, but there must be, out there somewhere, someone to save ‘Us’.

It’s then they remember the friend who spoke the word of God to ‘Them’, while they were denying His existence. The friend thankfully did not let politics stop him because he knew Gods words do not come back void. It was then the Spirit of God convicted ‘Them’ and as they fell on their faces and pleaded, “Oh God, please forgive this wretched me!” In a flicker of an eye blink, hope through the Spirit of God filled ‘Them’, and they know they have been plucked out of the middle of nowhere from the island of eternal death.

When Christians and their pastors draw a circle around evil and self-prevent themselves and the body of Christ from speaking Christ’s truth into this darkness and expose it, they are not only failing the Holy Spirit, they have become the servant who buried the talent in the ground. Christ called this servant, a wicked and lazy servant, and “cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 25:26&30).

My prayer is, God please forgive those who fail to expose darkness for they know not what they are doing!
